To be fair to the Americans they don't actualy no that ice can be made VERY simly by just puting water in a freezer over night, they think that ice is made using a very complex process of mixing certain chemicals in a factory. This is because (As well as the fact that americans are so stupid) the Ice making industry has kept the simple process of making ice very Hush Hush and have censored books for years in America and have even got the subject eriadicated from the school system .
